Killed: Steven Grisales (Picture: PA)
The 15-year-old stabbed Steven Grisales through the heart after the architecture student objected to being pelted with chestnuts.
He tried to pin the ‘sudden and unnecessary’ attack on his friend but was convicted of murder.
Mr Grisales was on his way to a train station in Edmonton, north London, when he confronted a group of teenage boys and girls throwing conkers.
The youths punched and kicked the victim, who dropped his bag and coat before picking up a child’s skateboard lying on the pavement.
Holding it above his head, Mr Grisales told them: ‘You think I’m afraid of that, I’m not afraid of that,’ before hitting the 15-year-old boy over the head with it, the Old Bailey heard.
‘That’s when the boy put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a knife,’
Neighbour Martin Casey added. The teenager was seen swinging his arm at the 21-year-old’s chest. Mr Grisales then collapsed in Mr Casey’s garden with his shirt covered in blood.
He died in hospital the next day. The killer, of Enfield, claimed he saw one of his friends appearing to punch the Westminster College student, also of Enfield, in the chest.
He later boasted of his link to the Northumberland Park gang by writing on his prison mattress: ‘NPK. Riding the Big Bird. Innocent on Remand.’
Police said his ‘arrogance and contempt for others belies his age’.
He will be sentenced on June 13.
