GE Unveils World-class Medical Equipment Provided for London 2012 Athletes

Worldwide Olympic Partner GE has unveiled state-of-the-art medical equipment that will be used to treat athletes at a world-class health facility during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Worldwide Olympic Partner GEext has unveiled state-of-the-art medical equipment that will be used to treat athletes at a world-class health facility during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Working in conjunction with the London Organising Committee to provide the best possible care for the athletes, GE, the official healthcare partner, has delivered some of the most sophisticated medical equipment currently available in the UK. GE Healthcare technologies housed at the main Polyclinic, situated at the Olympic Village, Stratford, include scanners, a digital x-ray system, ultrasound equipment and a diagnosis system.

Medical Director of the International Olympic Committee, Dr Patrick Schamasch, said: “Athletes will find in the Polyclinic of the Olympic Village state-of-the-art imaging equipment provided by GE. This high-tech equipment will allow athletes to be quickly diagnosed, treated and potentially allowed to return to the field of play to continue to perform for what is their life achievement - take part in the Olympic Gamesext. The IOC is proud of its collaboration with GE in enhancing its priority, the protection of the health of the athletes.”

Approximately 200 athletesext will be treated daily in the main Polyclinic. Most common cases expected include musculoskeletal injuries such as strains and sprains, minor illness such as the common cold, and superficial trauma such as wounds and grazes. The Polyclinic’s emergency department will be open 24 hours a day and will provide out-of-hours emergency services from 23.00 until 07.00.

After the Games, the Stratford Polyclinic will be taken over by the NHS and re-opened as a state-of-the-art healthcare facility for the new community coming to live in East Village and residents of Newham and neighbouring boroughs.
