The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT) was represented once again during the Olympic Torch Relay.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 16, 2012

The London 2012 Olympic Games begin on July 22 and the Olympic Torch Relay is currently underway. Earlier this month, San Francisco Bay Area endurance sports training and charity program, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT), was represented once again during the relay, this time by triathlete Nikhil Parikh.

“LLS and TNT have a long history with the Olympics,” said Leah Schilling of LLS. “In 2002, three members of the LLS family participated in the Olympic Torch Relay, and this year we were represented by Nikhil, an outstanding athlete, when he ran with the torch in Birkenhead, England on June 1.”

Parikh was one of 8,000 inspirational torchbearers carrying the flame on its 70-day journey from Greece to London. In September, he completed his first triathlon with TNT and helped raise over $6,000 for LLS. Parikh attributes much of his success to the support of his co-workers, who supported him with donations, matching gifts, and training and nutrition tips.

“The support I received from my colleagues exemplifies the spirit of the Olympics and what it means to be part of a team,” said Nikhil. And being part of a team like TNT means being a life-saving hero to Bay Area blood cancer patients.

Team In Training is now forming triathlon, marathon, half-marathon, hiking and cycling teams for the upcoming season, and has a program for athletes of all skill levels. For more information, visit teamintraining.org/sf or call 800.78.TRAIN to talk to a local Team Manager.

About Team In Training
Team In Training (TNT) San Francisco chapter offers Bay Area marathon trainingext, half-marathon trainingext, and Bay Area triathlon trainingext. Individuals can also train for cycling events and adventure hikes. TNT began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon in honor of Cleland's daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.

The team of 38 runners raised $322,000 for LLS's Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world's largest endurance sports training program. Cleland was honored by Runner's World magazine in 2004 as one of their "Heroes of Running" for his role in establishing TNT.

Whether participants choose The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's traditional Team In Training program or TNT Flex, a flexible, customized online training option developed by TNT's renowned coaches, they get all the support they need to cross the finish line at the marathon, half marathon, triathlon, century ride and hike adventure of their choice. Both offer a choice of world-class events, travel arrangements to an exciting destination, and a fabulous, activity-filled weekend once they're there.
