'In a very visual industry, it's so important for a model to look great at all times,' says Helen Stark, fashion editor for UKMA. 'A modelling portfolio is always the best way to get noticed as a model.' But she hints at other tips and tricks a model needs to learn to maximise their chances.
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 3 June 2012
In the wonderful world of modelling, UKMA offer wise words to aspiring models with a brand-new section all about breaking into the modelling business.
Offering honesty, professionalism and model advice, the team at UK Model Agencies receive thousands of emails each week from aspiring models. The question on every model's lips seems to be how to get into the modelling industry and UKMA launch a brand new section online to answer that very question.
'We are preparing for our busiest couple of months,' says Helen.' In past years, July and August have been the busiest time for model advice here at UK Model Agencies. Kids have finished their exams and don't really know what they want to do with themselves. They think part time modelling could be the answer to make a little money before university begins. During the six weeks holidays, we get inundated with emails asking how they can get into the modelling industry. Our brand-new section, which we will expand over the next few weeks, will cover all aspects of how to get into the modelling industry as well as the rules and regulations for under age models and the best way of dealing with self-promotion.'
Helen explains that in a very tough economic climate, model agents aren't taking on many new faces. The best way for any model to tackle this problem is to promote themselves, to effectively become self-employed right from the start and take hold of their own modelling career.
'It's all about promoting your image and getting your face out there,' says Stevie Lake, Marketing Manager for UKMA. 'A model today can't rely on getting signed straightaway. They have to work really hard in trying to promote themselves anyway they can.' He goes on to explain that getting a modelling portfolio made is the first step for any model to begin their career.
'If you are lucky enough for a model agent to grant you an interview, the agent needs to see instantly what you look like in various different poses and outfits. The best way to do this is to get a modelling portfolio featuring your best shots and always use a professional photographer to take them.' He advises never to use holiday snaps or candid shots taken by friends and family in a model book, as this can sometimes stop a modelling career before it has even started.
'A model needs to think long term. It's not just about rushing a few photo shoots and scrabbling together an album. The photographs that are put in the portfolio can brand a model for life, and it is something that needs to be built up over time. We would never advise a model to spend hundreds of pounds straight away, but to simply get a few shots for a Z card possibly, try out gaining work and actually trying to experience life as a model before fully deciding this is something you want to do for a career.'
The fashion editor for UK Model Agencies advises a model to have prepared a selection of 5 to 7 outfits, lots of different styles to assist the photographer in capturing a model pose perfectly.
'Take along casual and classy clothes, sassy and formal wear, but also bring a selection of different underwear too. 'Helen continues,' If the photographer has beauty experts on hand then wear no face products and have clean hair. This way it's a blank canvas for the professionals to work their magic with their make up.'
