Richard Close, business turnaround expert and chief executive of materials handling supplier Briggs Equipment Ltd, based in Cannock, Staffordshire has been named as the winner of the West Midlands ‘Director of the Year in a large company' by the Institute of Directors (IOD). The award was presented by category sponsor Neil Burton, Sales Director at Web Spiders at a breakfast ceremony held at Warwickshire County Cricket Club on 15th May 2012.
Richard Close was credited with turning around the fortunes of Briggs Equipment Ltd, having joined in 2006 when the company was experiencing a multi-million pound loss. The awards entry included an application form and a meeting with a panel of judges from the West Midlands IOD. Richard Close will now be eligible to apply for the national ‘Director of the Year’ award which will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 5 October 2012. The judges were particularly impressed with Richard’s management style, his commitment to his people and passion for customer service.
Richard Close comments: “It is a real honour to receive this award and acknowledgement from such an esteemed organisation.
