Producer/Director Tom Bartlett launches a KickStarter fundraiser to support The Search For The Lost Palace of Odysseus, a documentary featuring renowned Archeologist Dr. Gary Stickel, a true life Indiana Jones, in an exploration of a lifetime.
HeartRocket Entertainment announced the launch of a KickStarter fundraising campaign for their one-hour film entitled THE SEARCH FOR THE LOST PALACE OF ODYSSEUS . Renowned Archeologist, Dr. Gary Stickel and his outstanding Greek colleague, Professor Irini Vallera-Rickerson, Ph.D, will implement a geophysical survey system involving Ground Penetrating Radar and the Total Field Magnetometer as they look to identify "signatures" that could indicate the fabled LOST PALACE OF ODYSSEUS. Producer/Director, Tom Bartlett, will take audience members throughout several breathtaking Greek locations including Athens, Acropolis, Ithaca, Phorcys’ Bay, and Kefalonia as he follows the exploration team this June and July.
Guided by the highly detailed descriptive writings of Homer’s ancient classic poems, The Iliad and Odyssey, the excavation team has already identified four sites which yield pottery shards that will potentially help their historic discovery. Unraveling the mystery of the Palace, Dr. Stickel and Prof. Rickerson maintain that others have inaccurately determined the site to be on the island of “Ithaca” when in fact, the location and topography does not match Homer’s own description. The on-going search for the Palace has archeologists digging in what Indiana Jones himself would consider “the wrong place.” It is on the western most area of the island Kefalonia, called Paliki, that the archeological team has deemed a suitable match for Homer’s description of the Palace. Here, Dr. Stickel and Prof Rickerson will examine the bronze age artifacts which are consistent with the time period in which Homer’s stories take place, and will guide the audience through a virtual tour of the proposed floor-plan developed with Homer’s description.
The film will pair the archeological investigation with interviews from high level scholars and local historians who will add colorful and insightful historical context to the dig amidst the gorgeous background of Greece itself.
Dr. Stickel is an Archaeologist/Artist who has had world-wide and unique experiences with major sites. He received his Ph.D. in Anthropology (specializing in Archaeology) from UCLA and taught at the UCLA Department of Anthropology. Some of his major expeditions and projects have included his excavation at Achillion (the legendary birthplace of Achilles, greatest hero of Homer's ILIAD, in Greece); at the legendary "Lost City of the Incas," Machu Picchu in Peru. Gary also made a major discovery with the Farpoint Site which the Smithsonian called a highly significant site and "the first Clovis (culture) site to be found on the west coast of the Americas" The London Times reported his discovery to the world and called him "the real-life Indiana Jones" (Dr. Stickel was also the actual archaeologist who helped Lucasfilm with "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and the film series).
If the palace can be found it will be a historic, world-class discovery! THE SEARCH FOR THE LOST PALACE OF ODYSSEUS will be a captivating and exciting piece of film art history.
